FAQ
How many NSEP alumni are out there?
Since the program began in 1994, nearly 5,000 fellowships and scholarships (including Flagship Fellowships and EHLS awards) have been awarded. Alumni have studied in more than 100 countries and learned more than 100 less-commonly taught languages critical to the advancement of US national security.
Who can join?
The NSEP Alumni Association is open to all NSEP Scholarship and Fellowship recipients, whether they are still in school, fulfilling their service agreement, or beyond any obligation to NSEP. Boren Fellows, Boren Scholars, Flagship Fellows, English for Heritage Language Speakers Scholars and Project Global Officer awardees are all encouraged to join.
How do I join?
Please sign up by adding your name and information here.
If I join, what is my commitment to the NSEP Alumni Association? What will it do for me?
No commitment is necessary to join the NSEP Alumni Association. We will add you to our mailing list so that you receive announcements and invitations to our Social Activities, Educational Events, and Professional Development Events (including networking events). We organize these events to advance the interests of our alumni and to foster the growth of our alumni community.
How is the NSEP Alumni Association funded?
The NSEP Alumni Association is primarily funded through donations from our Board members, supporters, and alumni, as well as modest fees charged for certain services or events. The organization receives no annual funding from NSEP, IIE, DOD, Congress, or any other part of the federal government, nor do we receive corporate donations.
How can I get involved?
We welcome you to join NSEP Alumni Association activities, most of which are held either virtually or in the Washington, D.C. metro area. However, we are constantly looking to expand representation to include chapters in other cities and/or states.
How can I join the NSEP Alumni Association’s Board of Directors?
We extend interviews to new Board members on an annual basis, usually towards the end of the year. Make sure to join our mailing list so that you receive the invitation. If you’re interested in volunteering to help the Association in the meantime, reach out any time to info@borenforum.org.
