  • Position: Volunteer Role

    Reports to: President and Vice-President

    Job Purpose: The Chair of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) will lead the NSEP Alumni Association Board (AAB) in fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture. This role is pivotal in developing and implementing strategies that promote DEI initiatives for all NSEP alumni (Boren Scholars, Boren Fellow, EHLS, Flagship, etc.), ensuring they align with our organizational goals and values.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Strategy Development:

      • Develop and implement a comprehensive DEI strategy aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, and goals.

      • Collaborate with NSEP AAB President, Vice-President, and Vice Chair for DEI, and other board members to integrate DEI principles into all aspects of organizational culture and operations.

    2. Leadership and Advocacy:

      • Serve as a visible and influential leader and advocate for DEI initiatives across the AAB.

      • Champion a workplace environment where diversity is celebrated, equity is upheld, and inclusion is practiced at all levels.

    3. Education:

      • Provide guidance and resources to support ongoing learning and development related to DEI.

    4. Community Engagement:

      • Build partnerships and collaborate with external organizations, community groups, and stakeholders to advance DEI initiatives externally.

      • Represent the organization in DEI-related events, conferences, and forums.

    5. Program Creation and Coordination:

      • Lead all efforts related to the nascent NSEP Black/African Diaspora Affinity Group (BLKADG) with few resources and/or previous infrastructure.

      • Ensure program coordination in the Vice Chair of DEI.

      • Report all program efforts, needs, etc. to NSEP AAB President, Vice-President, and other board members through communications (email, WhatsApp group, etc.).

    6. Other:

      • Attend on-line monthly AAB monthly meetings.

      • Outbrief about DEI efforts in AAB monthly meetings.

      • Collaborate with other NSEP AAB members to monitor and evaluate DEI program(s) effectiveness.

    Qualifications:

    • Successful completion of NSEP scholarship (Boren Scholar, Boren Fellow, EHLS, Flagship, etc.) and graduated from university.

    • Must be in good standing with NSEP in regards to completing government service requirements.

    • Experience and/or interest in a leadership role focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives with little to no resources, infrastructure, etc.

    • Understanding and/or of DEI principles, best practices, and current trends.

    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence with all stakeholders.

    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in public speaking and delivering presentations.

    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

    Desired:

    • Certification and/or experience in DEI or related fields.

    • Based in the DMV or NYC area.

    • Regularly attends monthly NSEP Alumni Networking events.

    • Able to dedicate around 3 hours per week to AAB, DEI program(s), etc.

  • Position: Volunteer Role

    Reports to: President and Vice-President

    Job Summary: The Chair of Career Support will lead the NSEP Alumni Association Board (AAB) efforts to get NSEP alumni recruited to the U.S. Federal Government and U.S. contractors. This role is crucial in ensuring NSEP alumni have opportunities towards federal government employment, as required post-completion of NSEP scholarships. 

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Programing Creation and Implementation:

      • Spearhead annual career fair.

      • Develop other career support initiatives which bolster NSEP alumni career support, as prioritized by NSEP, post-award completion.

      • Create other work skills-related programming to bolster NSEP alumni career support.

      • Report all career support program efforts, needs, etc. to NSEP AAB President, Vice-President, and other board members through communications (email, WhatsApp group, etc.).

    2. Strategy Development:

      • Develop and implement a comprehensive career support strategy aligned with NSEP AAB’s mission, vision, and goals.

      • Collaborate with NSEP AAB President, Vice-President and other board members to integrate DEI principles into all aspects of organizational culture and operations.

    3. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Initiatives:

      • Implement inclusive practices and strategies to attract a diverse pool of volunteers that reflects the communities we serve.

      • Work collaboratively with the DEI team to integrate DEI principles into volunteer recruitment efforts.

    4. Community Engagement:

      • Build partnerships and collaborate with external organizations, community groups, and stakeholders to advance career support initiatives externally, especially U.S. Federal Government agencies.

      • Represent the NSEP AAB in career support-related events, conferences, and forums.

      • Liaise and maintain relationships with career support managers within federal government agencies, U.S. contracting companies, etc.

      • Work closely with NSEP AAB President, Vice-President, and other AAB members to develop working relationships with career support authorities, especially U.S. federal government.

      • Build positive relationships with external stakeholders to align career support efforts.

    5. Other:

      • Attend on-line monthly AAB monthly meetings.

      • Outbrief about DEI efforts in AAB monthly meetings.

      • Collaborate with other NSEP AAB members to monitor and evaluate career support program(s) effectiveness.

    Qualifications:

    • Successful completion of NSEP scholarship (Boren Scholar, Boren Fellow, EHLS, Flagship, etc.) and graduated from university.

    • Must be in good standing with NSEP in regards to completing government service requirements.

    • Passion for the NSEP AAB mission and commitment to bolstering NSEP alumni career support

    • Strong organizational and communication skills.

    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a volunteer-driven environment.

    • Understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.

    Desired:

    • Certification and/or experience in career support or related fields.

    • Based in the DMV or NYC area.

    • Regularly attends monthly NSEP Alumni Networking events.

    • Able to dedicate around 3 hours per week to AAB, career support program(s), etc.

    • Previous experience in recruitment, HR, or related fields is preferred.

  • Position: Volunteer Role

    Reports to: President, Vice-President, and Chair of Communications

    Job Summary: The VIce Chair of Communication will lead and oversee the NSEP’s Alumni Association Board’s (AAB) internal and external communications. This role is responsible for ensuring effective communication that enhances the organization’s reputation, engages stakeholders (internal and external), and supports strategic objectives.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Strategic Communication Planning:

      • Assist in developing and implementing comprehensive communication plans aligned with NSEP AAB’s goals and priorities.

      • Coordinate with NSEP AAB President, Vice President to integrate communication strategies into overall strategies.

    2. Internal Communication:

      • Develop strategies and channels to ensure clear and effective internal communication across all efforts.

    3. External Communication and Public Relations:

      • Manage external communication relations to push out event notifications

      • Assist the Communications Chair in developing, executing, and maintaining a comprehensive editorial calendar in close coordination with the NSEP AAB President, Vice President

      • Co-develop the organization’s website and social media platforms including messaging with NSEP alumni and other stakeholders.

      • Co-develop regular newsletters with Chair of Communications

    4. Other:

      • Attend on-line monthly AAB monthly meetings.

      • Outbrief about communication efforts in AAB monthly meetings.

      • Collaborate with other NSEP AAB members to monitor and evaluate communication program(s) effectiveness.

    Qualifications:

    • Successful completion of NSEP scholarship (Boren Scholar, Boren Fellow, EHLS, Flagship, etc.) and graduated from university.

    • Must be in good standing with NSEP in regards to completing government service requirements.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for different audiences.

    • Strong leadership and managerial skills, with experience with volunteer boards.

    • Ability to think strategically and execute tactically, with attention to detail and quality.

    • Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms.

    Desired:

    • Certification and/or experience in communications or related fields.

    • Based in the DMV or NYC area.

    • Regularly attends monthly NSEP Alumni Networking events.

    • Able to dedicate around 3 hours per week to AAB, communications program(s), etc.
